Trophy Room - Chateau Cheverny
Day 40 - May 20 - Chateaux of the Loire - 20 miles - Woke up to cold rain and drizzle. Packed camp wet, & on the road about 11:00. The rain soon stopped, but we never saw the sun all day.
Bought lunch supplies at Bracieux. A fine little one lane road led through park like forests to Villesavin, but the chateau there looked rather small to justify the 12 franc admission, so we rode on to Cheverny.
The chateau at Cheverny was closed for lunch so we passed the time in a restaurant over omelets, crepes, wine and coffee. The outside of the chateau looked boring, but inside there was a good display of armor and a trophy room with all four walls and the ceiling covered with the mounted heads of boar and hundreds of deer antlers dating to way back when. Not all rooms were available to view as the Marquis still lives in private rooms; those we did see were decorated in the overdone fou-fou style.
