Bastia Beach
Day 17 - April 27 - Compared to yesterday's rainy ferry ride, today was clear and sunny. We moved about one mile north to a public beach for some serious relaxing. We did all those things midwesterners do at the beach: walked barefoot in the hot sand, played Frisbee with an old jar lid, and let the sun turn our skin from white to red. When the sun and wind became too much, we took shelter in our tarp, rigged to some driftwood, and alternately napped and snacked, from the shelves of a nearby store.
Just over the next sand dune a young couple had romantic music on their tape deck. Occasionally they would jump up and run to splash for a few minutes in the cold surf. She was wearing only pink panties; I forget what he was wearing. Several 'bird watchers' - fully clothed 'gentlemen' - could be seen lurking around in woods adjacent to the beach with binoculars; today they were able to put a little check mark in their bird books next to 'rosy breasted titmouse' and 'sandy bottomed surf splasher' - creepy.
